Meet Our Hairy Coos
We have 2 experiences with our highland cows.
Our Highland Cow & Alpaca Signature Experience is a one-of-a-kind chance to spend quality time with some of the most loved animals on the farm - our stunning iconic Highland cows, known affectionately as “hairy coos,” and our unexpected protectors, the alpacas.
You’ll be welcomed to the farm by your guide, receive a short health and safety briefing, and then head off - normally in our Land Rover Defender - for a short journey through the Angus countryside to meet our beautiful fold of Highland cattle.
This small group experience (maximum 6 people) gives you the chance to brush, groom, and connect with these gentle, shaggy-haired legends, learning about their lives and traditions here at Newton Farm in their natural environment - all while enjoying plenty of photo opportunities!
Our new Highland Cow & Alpaca Experience - Accessible & Family Friendly is for any age and wheelchair accessible.
On arrival, we will travel across our working livestock and arable farm in our specially designed 18-seat passenger trailer (plus 1 wheelchair space) to meet our much-loved Highland cows.
On arrival at the field, visitors will disembark into a secure enclosure. Our Highland cows will approach the enclosure, where you can meet them, learn about their individual personalities and take plenty of photographs.
There may be an opportunity to groom the cows from the enclosure, depending on which animals choose to approach and how they are behaving that day.
You will also have the opportunity to see Hector, our Highland bull, when he is available.
This experience has been designed to be accessible, suitable for those with additional support needs and limited mobility including wheelchair users, and for families, younger children, older visitors and those who may not be comfortable entering a field with free-moving cattle. It offers an enjoyable and engaging way to get close to the animals while remaining within a designated visitor area.
and our Loyal Guardians ... the Alpacas!
They may not be native to Scotland, but our friendly alpacas have an important job here on the farm - keeping a watchful eye over our lambs and kids during the spring. After your Highland cow encounter, you’ll get the chance to meet, greet, and hand-feed these curious, teddy-bear-like guardians of the field.
